thumb Grupo ATB - BOLIVIA - Ing. Juan Carlos Barrero (Oct. 2009)

ATB is the major network in Bolivia. It has its own channels in all the main cities of the country, about 200 stations receive our signals in different rural and mining areas that we are aware of.

Many others also receive our signal, but we have no registration of them. ATB’s participation in the Bolivian market is quite important as it is the channel chosen by at least 90% of the territory due to its technical facilities and impartial editing line.

It was time for us to renew our news systems, which we had been using for a long time, but we had to adjust to a specific budget.
Thus, several options were studied taking into account the technical characteristics and costs.
The current market offers alternatives which adjust to different budgets, but apart from the economic factor, we also had technical and quality expectations.

The system with the SQUID line suggested by XV-Tech could meet our expectations. We are satisfied because this acquisition fulfils our current requirements of satellite capture, edition, and broadcasting of news in two studios. We are also satisfied with the post-sale service and the immediate response of technical support when required.

We initially acquired the system for our news, but we are now considering the possibility of adopting SQUID for the digitalization of the master controls in our channel network with the aim of having a fully tapeless system. The system is very flexible and adaptable to all our needs. Apart from SQUID for the master control, we will also acquire the sales management system.
thumb America TV - PERU – Ing. Jaime Rodriguez (Oct. 2009)

The participation of America Television in the Peruvian television market of open signals consists in 33%. We are the channel with highest rating and we produce the most-watched program in the local television.
Our main station is located in Lima and we also have eight other subsidiaries in the provinces (with local advertisement), twenty relay stations and about 200 affiliated stations throughout all the country.
We decided to acquire SQUID equipment mainly because we needed to have control over the broadcasting of advertisements in our subsidiaries and to centralize the contents, the length and broadcasting times.
The advertisements can be established from Lima and at the same time we can have reports about the broadcasted contents. SQUID Systems have a very friendly interface and are compatible with our working procedure. We are looking forward to applying more systems in our stations.
thumb TyC Sports - ARGENTINA - (Aug. 2008) Horacio Mazzitelli, operation manager in charge of the channel’s technical department, explains the transition towards the tapeless system which is being applied and also highlights the role of SQUID as the solution which stood out during the coverage of the Beijing Olympic Games due to its capacity of ingestion, content filing and broadcasting from the play out module.

What is the participation of TyC Sports within the sports broadcasting market in Latin America?

Without any doubt, this insertion is not simple at all. However, we are starting to make productions for several countries from the region, such as Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, among others. We have had a good regional experience with the broadcasting of the Olympic Games and there was a positive impact in our clients, who have many times supported us with specific advertisement campaigns due to the investment made by us. In fact, interviews to several sport celebrities were made in different parts of Beijing.

In what countries is the international signal present?

The international signal of TyC Sports is in the United States, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela. Our participation is, of course, stronger where there are major Argentine communities because the signal gets there easily.

How is today the signal structure of TyC Sports?

The signal of TyC Sports reaches all the country. We have TyC Max, the premium signal which broadcasts the first division soccer matches, the national league of basketball, boxing and other events. There are also two international channels: one for Latin America and another one for the United States and México. In addition, we have a fifth channel for those cases where there are simultaneous events. It may happen that TyC Max is broadcasting a soccer match and the other signal the Davis Cup. In this case, we would use this extra channel as long as the operating cable has available space and would like to broadcast the event.

How has the tapeless transition been completed?

We are currently under process towards a tapeless system. In fact, we still have equipment for linear edition and several machines for non-linear edition. Some contents are produced in tapes, others in P2 and the ingestion to each corresponding equipment is made from there.
Our server structure is divided into editing servers, play out servers and file servers. We have Profile for broadcasting, Unity Avid for edition and SQUID of XV-Tech as broadcast backup and all the file structure.

How is SQUID incorporated to this workflow?

It is very useful to us because it allows a fluent exchange of materials between the editing server and the file. Anyway, we are going to install the new version of SQUID 2, this version will complete the workflow with P2 technology, and it will also give us very important tools to classify and search filed materials. This will make the workflow faster because when it ingests the content, it makes it directly in the file and then memories are available to go out again or they may be kept in the files and the materials are available to be transferred to the editing server when required.

We know that a workflow SQUID has been implemented for the coverage of the Olympic Games in China. Specifically, how was the experience in the field?

Basically, SQUID LoopRecorders and TDPlayers systems were useful to constantly record events that sometimes would not be broadcasted due to their coincidence with some other event and they had to be broadcasted later. It also made possible that recorded materials or materials which were being recorded could be watched, selected and transferred to an Adrenaline, and then be compacted. From this point, the reports edited or recorded in the LoopRecorders were derived to the play out server in order to be on the air when required by the transmission. That is to say, the addition of the SQUID News and Air systems were useful not only to file all the materials that we could ingest, but also to broadcast them. So, the result was very good for us.

How do you see the future of the SQUID solutions according to TyC Sports requirements?

Undoubtedly, we will grow and require more and more SQUID equipments; especially for all that is related to material visualization, classification and search. Therefore, producers will be able to check the filed materials. Positions regarding control, guideline and play out servers are already in service. We will also increase the storage capacity. Taking into account the capacity that we have, we need about six months of materials. Then, we will have to increase the storage in order to cover that period of time.

What do you think about the ISO 9001-2000 certification of SQUID?

I think that it is very interesting that people from XV-Tech have obtained an ISO 9001 certification because this makes the software design, which is being performed, more reliable. This design has methods to build the main design and each one of the processes. It is very good for buyers to know that all software designs are being made in a serious manner and involve a server that will be working 24 hours a day.

I think that the tools that are being designed for the data base are very interesting. I think that the product is suitable for anyone that starts a workflow development; especially because it may be used as a base to grow and couple with the different existing structures.
thumb Grupo TELEFE - ARGENTINA - Ing. Mauricio Franco - Transmission Manager (Oct. 2007)

Grupo TELEFE is made up by Telefe Capital and its 8 channels from the rest of the country:
Cordoba, Mar del Plata, Santa Fe, Rosario, Salta, Tucuman, Neuquen and Bahia Blanca.
It is the group structure at the level of its transmitters. All these channels are coordinated by Telefe Capital and my management technologically coordinates the equipment, working and maintenance of all the channels of Telefe Interior.

At this moment, all the channels of Telefe Interior are using tapeless system from the ingest to the broadcast; this is a complete tapeless system. The areas in which we are implementing tapeless systems are: news, advertisements and promotions. In the news area, it covers the processes of ingest, production and edition until the moment they are broadcasted. It is also used in programs broadcasted from Buenos Aires via satellite or by means of a server in case it is digital or transmitted alive from any of those channels.

Although Telefe Interior channels are 8, we consider them as 16 stations because each channel has an advertisement server and a news server. Regarding the workflow, each station is managed by SQUID systems. They integrate broadcasting servers as well as timeDelay or Loop Rcorders used for satellite recording.

We have been working with XV-Tech since 2004. Actually, Telefe was the first important channel of Argentina that implemented a solution developed by this company.

In addition to these 16 systems of Telefe Interior, we have one more system in the city of Buenos Aires which controls the broadcasting of Telefe Internacional. We consider it as a ninth channel. In Telefe Noticias Capital we also use the Loop Recorder and Time Delay solutions to record and broadcast news.
Likewise, we have many SQUID Keyer graphic equipments. One of them is used by Telefe Capital for broadcasting and the others are in each Study of the channel.

My Director, Adrian Fernandez, and I believe that SQUID systems are very good, of high quality and that they are professionally developed. Regarding the price, there is an excellent cost-benefit relationship. XV-Tech stands out for the type of support that they offer at both a technological and human level. They have a great commitment with the product and you can see this through their post-sale service and the follow-up conducted to each delivered product and equipment.
